Following the successful tests, the Bihan 6.50 is now set to go into series production. A first presentation is planned for the Paris trade fair in December this year. The plans were drawn up in the renowned French design office of Finot/Conq. There, the concept is seen as a kind of homely further development of the sporty Open 5.70 and 6.50 class standard racers. Marine Composites in Arzon on the Gulf of Morbihan will now realise it and make it ready for series production.
The Golf du Morbihan in western France is not only the birthplace of the Bihan 6.50, but also a kind of concept template and namesake. The shallow, widely branched waters are known for their enormous tidal range and for their many small islands and beaches - falling dry is the order of the day here. This is why the small Bihan 6.50 is also equipped with a swivelling keel and a retractable rudder blade. This makes it easy to go ashore, including launching via a ramp. With a width of 2.54 metres and a weight of just 800 kilograms, the boat is also easy to transport on a trailer.
The visually striking feature of the Bihan 6.50 is its gaff rig, made of carbon fibre. The short mast is designed to be raised and lowered comfortably by just one person. In any case, the concept is designed for unconditional single-handed suitability. The boat is equipped as standard with a self-tacking jib and a single-line recovery system for the gennaker.
Below deck, the Bihan offers simple living comfort with four berths and a small pantry module. The shipyard's first price announcement is attractive: the boat will be launched on the market for 45,000 euros including sails.
